LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's golf coach Mark Crabtree announced today that junior college standout Greg Garcia has signed a national letter of intent to continue his education and play golf for the Cardinals.

"I'm pleased and excited Greg has chosen to continue his career at U of L," said Crabtree who led the Cards to a surprising fourth-place finish at the 2000 Conference USA championships. "He's just the type of player we need to continue to build this program. He has a proven track record and is capable of posting some low numbers. I know the number of outstanding facilities in the area and the Cardinal Club project helped him make the decision to join us."

A native of Durban, South Africa, Garcia earned junior college All-America honors in 1999 finishing among the top 10 individuals at the National Junior College Athletic Association championships. Garcia also helped Scottsdale (AZ) Community College to a runner-up finish at the national championships.

Midway through the 2000 season, Garcia has helped the Artichokes rise to a No. 2 national ranking.
