NAVARRE, FL -- The University of Louisville men's golf team jumped one spot in the team standings and is just one shot behind fourth place Southern Miss and five shots behind South Florida as the Conference USA Championship enter its final 18 holes. Defending champion Houstonis the tournament leader, seven shots ahead of second place UAB.
The Cardinals will tee off Wednesday morning with two players - Chris Campbell and Grant Sturgeon -- among the top six individuals.
Campbell, who opened the championship with a 69, carded a +2 (74) on Day Two and dropped into third place overall. The Louisville native will enter Wednesday's final round just two shots behind second round leader Brett Hitchcock of South Florida.
A graduate of Male High School, Campbell has posted runner-up finishes in each of his past two starts and will be looking to secure all-C-USA laurels for the second consecutive season.
Sturgeon rebounded from an opening round 75 to fire the low round of Day Two, a two-under-par 70. The Cave City, Ky. native jumped from 26th place at the beginning of play into a sixth place tie with Houston's Brad McIntosh. Sturgeon will open play on Wednesday at +1 (145) and just four shots behind Hitchcock.
Medalist honors are no stranger to Sturgeon who fired a final round 66 (-6) at the San Diego State Invitational earlier this season to capture the individual title.
Freshman Joel Fuller continues to play well in just his third collegiate event. The mid-year rookie recorded his second consecutive 76 and is tied with two other golfers at 152 (+8).
