NAVARRE, FL -- An opening round 69 (-3) has University of Louisville senior Chris Campbell in second place after 18 holes at the Conference USA Championships. Campbell's Day One performance puts him one shot behind opening round leader Tele Wightman who fired a 68 including a three-under 33 on the back nine. The 54-hole championship will continue Tuesday and Wednesday with 18 holes of action each day.
As a team, U of L is tied with South Florida in sixth place just three shots behind second place Southern Miss.
Campbell's 69 put him as the only Cardinal in the top 20 after 18 holes. Junior Grant Sturgeon rebounded from a 40 on the front nine to shoot 75 (+3) and reside in 23rd place.
Freshman Joel Fuller also placed among the top 30 on Day One shooting a 34 on the back nine to record a four-over-par 76 in his first league championship.
Juniors Dean Halterman and Geoff Nuwash round out the Cardinal lineup shooting 78 and 79, respectively.
