GULFPORT, MS -- Playing their first spring tournament of the 2001 season, the U of L men's golf team holds down sixth place after 36 holes of the Beau Rivage College Classic. The Cardinals opened the 54-hole event posting a two-round score of 605 including an impressive team showing of 297 in the second round.
Junior Grant Sturgeon leads three U of L golfers in the top 20 after Day One tied for 14th place. The Cave City, Ky., native rebounded from an opening round 78 to shoot even par 72 over the second 18 and finish the day at +6.
Coastal Carolina transfer Dean Halterman and untested rookie Matt Bascom join Sturgeon in the top 20. Each carded 36-hole totals of 151 to stand tied with seven other golfers in 19th place at +7.
Freshman Joel Fuller (+9, t-31) and senior Chris Campbell (+13, t-57) round out the rest of the Cards' individual totals.
U of L will close out the 16-team tournament Tuesday morning with 18 holes of play.
