VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. - Sophomores Riley Wheeldon and Justin Dorward shot a two-under-par 68 to place in a tie for fourth and lead the University of Louisville men's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate at the par-70 Old Overton Club on Tuesday.
Alabama won its fourth straight title. Louisville posted 281 just eight shots behind the Tide. UNLV and East Tennessee State tied for third place at even-par 280.
After day one's 36 holes were rained out on Monday, the tournament was shortened to an 18-hole event.
Wheeldon and Dorward paced the Cardinals with a pair of 68 and finished just three shots out of the lead.
Junior Karsten Clements tied for 29th overall by shooting 72, while sophomore Chris Biuso was tied for 36th place with his 73. He had the shot of the day on the eighth hole when he sunk a hole-in-one on the par 3, 214-yard hole.
Freshman Aaron Sherry tied for 50th overall by carding 76.
