TAMPA, Fla. - TAMPA, Fla. - Sophomore Brent Holmes fired 73 to pace the University of Louisville men's golf team to a sixth-place standing at the Conference USA Men's Golf Championships at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Fla.

Two-time defending champion TCU has jumped out to an 11-stroke lead after shooting a two-under total of 286 on the opening day of the three-day tournament. TCU's Adam Meyer sits atop the opening day leader board after firing a four-under 68. His teammate, Colby Beckstrom is just one stroke behind him with a three-under 69. A third Horned Frog, David Schultz, is in a five-way tie for fifth place after shooting a one-over 73 on the 7,083-yard, par 71 layout.

Holmes is currently tied for fifth overall after day one of the event. After shooting 38 on the front, Holmes responded with 35 and is five strokes off the lead.

Juniors Charlie Woo and Brett Jones, and sophomore Will Hanna are tied for 30th place after carding 77. Senior Matt Bascom is in 41st after shooting 78.

The 534-yard, par five on No. 9 proved to be the hardest hole to play on the day, with an average score of 5.14. The lowest average hole was the shortest hole on the course, the 146-yard, par three No. 14 where the average score was a 3.21.

The teams play 18 holes on Tuesday before a final round on Wednesday. Tee times both days start at 7:45 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
