DADE CITY, Fla. - University of Louisville senior Justin Dorward fired a 2-over 74 in the final round, to earn co-medalist honors at the USF Invitational on Tuesday held at the Lake Jovita Country Club in Dade City.
The Cardinals remained in seventh place in the 17-team field after 54 holes of competition. Louisville shot 304-284-293=881 and finished 27 shots behind team medalist No. 16 UCF, who fired 854 over the three-day tournament.
Dorward, who shared medalist honors with Arkansas State's Chris Pledger who came back from two strokes down, became Louisville's first medalist since Adam Hadwin captured the individual title at the BIG EAST Championship in 2009.
Junior Chris Malec moved up three spots to tie for seventh. Malec fired par en route to a career-best finish at 75-68-72=215.
Freshman Maximilian Walz moved up 20 spots and tied for 58th. Walz improved four strokes from the second round and carded 72-76-72=229. Fellow freshman Henry Tomlinson also tied for 58th after firing 78-76-75=229.
Junior Kyle Blackston rounded out the lineup for the Cardinals. He tied for 70th after shooting 83-73-78=234.
The Cardinals are back in action at the UCF Invitational held March 19-20.
