LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville football players Calvin Pryor and Marcus Smith were named to the Athlon's Sports All-American teams, the magazine announced Friday.

Pryor, a first team All-American Athletic Conference selection, was voted a second team All-American at safety, while Smith was a third team selection.

Pryor started 12 games for the Cardinals and developed a reputation as one of the big hitters in the game. The hard-hitting junior earned his second career conference accolade after compiling 69 tackles, 5.5 which resulted in a loss of yardage, three interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Pryor recorded three double-digit tackle games this season, totaling a career-best 14 tackles in a 24-10 win over Rutgers, 11 in a loss to UCF and closed the regular season with 12 stops in an overtime win over Cincinnati.

Smith, who was the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year, was selected as a second team All-American by USA Today and the Walter Camp Association.

The first-team all-conference honoree ranks second nationally and also led the league decisively in total sacks with 12.5 and sacks per game at 1.0.

The Columbus, Ga., native currently ranks seventh on the school's charts with 12.5 sacks overall and needs just half a sack to tie for fifth most in a season. Smith is second in the league in tackles for loss per game both overall (11.5) and per game (1.44). Smith also forced three fumbles and blocked a kick.

Louisville (11-1, 7-1 AAC) concludes the 2013 campaign on Dec. 28 in the Russell Athletic Bowl against Miami (Fla.). Kickoff at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
