LOUISVILLE, KY -- Nearly seven years to the day when they last appeared in the Coaches' Top 25, the Louisville Cardinals find themselves ranked among the 25 best teams in college football according to the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Top 25. The 9-2 Conference USA champion Cardinals rise to No. 23 nationally in the Nov. 26 poll. The Associated Press Top 25 is schedule to be released later today.

The last time a U of L gridiron squad was found among the top 25 was Nov. 29, 1993 when a then 8-3 Cardinal club was ranked 24th overall by the coaches and 25th nationally in the AP poll.

U of L's highest national ranking on record also came in the '93 season when the Cardinals jumped to No. 13 in the Nov. 1, 1993 edition of the coahces' poll. In that same week, AP had the Cardinals rated No. 15.

The 2000 version of the Cardinals are set to take No. 22 Colorado State in the AXA Liberty Bowl on Dec. 29 in Memphis, Tenn.

The Rams will be the third 2000 U of L opponent to be ranked at gametime after the Cardinals fell 31-0 at No. 2 Florida State on Sept. 23 and defeated then-No. 11 Southern Miss, 49-28, in Hattiesburg on Nov. 4.
