CardsTV: A Look at the 2014 Cardinal Defense

June 9, 2014

LOUISVILLE, Ky.- The University of Louisville has a lot of question marks after the departure of seven starters heading into the 2014 season, but the Cardinals do have talent returning this season.

Louisville does have holes to fill defensively, but there's plenty of talent returning as the Cardinals enter one of the nation's toughest conference -- the ACC.

Lorenzo Mauldin headlines the defense after recording 9.5 sacks, which ranked 19th in the nation. He will move to an outside linebacker position in defensive coordinator's Todd Grantham's system.

Cornerback Charles Gaines led the Cardinals with five intereptions and Terell Floyd is the other cornerback, who has started the last two seasons.

Linebacker James Burgess is the team's top returning tackler, while Keith Brown, who returns from an injury, will also bring athleticism to the defense.

The Cardinals will have quite a few battles during fall camp and it will be interesting to see who fills the open positions when Louisville opens on Sept. 1 versus Miami.
