2010 Football Schedule
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - -
The BIG EAST Conference released its 2010 football schedule Wednesday, and the University of Louisville's 12-game slate features an exciting seven-game home lineup of both conference and non-conference contests. Louisville will face nine bowl teams from a year ago.
The Cardinals are slated to open their 2010 season on Saturday, Sept. 4 against Kentucky in the newly-expanded Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. The 12-year old facility will be expanded from 42,000 to 56,000 in time for the debut of first-year head coach Charlie Strong.
"I like the way the schedule has come together," said Strong. "It will be very exciting for me to take the field for the first time as a head coach against the University of Kentucky in our renovated stadium. That will be an exciting day. Furthermore, we have seven home games, which should help our young football team, including four league games at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. I'm just looking forward to getting out on the field for the first time with this football team on March 24 for the start of spring practice."
After opening against the Wildcats, Louisville remains home the following week against Eastern Kentucky on Sept. 11 before hitting the road for the first time on Sept. 18 with a visit to Corvallis, Ore., to face the Beavers of Oregon State. Louisville and OSU last met in 2005 at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium where the Cardinals won 63-7.
After an open week, Louisville will travel to Jonesboro, Ark. to face Arkansas State before returning home the following week (Oct. 9) to face long-time rival Memphis.
Louisville will open its BIG EAST Conference schedule with a pair of home games, and will play four of its first six league games at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. The Cardinals host 2009 BIG EAST champion Cincinnati on Friday night Oct. 15 at 8:00 p.m. on ESPN before remaining home to face the Huskies of Connecticut on Oct. 23.
The Cardinals hit the road for a pair of league games in consecutive weeks with a trip to Pittsburgh on Oct. 30 and a visit to Syracuse the following week on Nov. 6.
After its two-game road trip, the Cardinals will face a tough two-game home slate when the Bulls of South Florida visit on Nov. 13 and the Mountaineers of West Virginia on Nov. 20.
The Cardinals will close out the 2010 schedule with a Friday night trip to Piscataway, N.J. to face Rutgers in a nationally-televised game on Friday, Nov. 26. The game will be shown on either ESPN/ESPNU or ABC.
Times for most games will be made available as the season gets closer.
