Memphis at Louisville
Papa John's Cardinal Stadium, Louisville, Ky.
Louisville Head Coach Bobby Petrino
"Defensively, they put a lot of pressure on us. They took
away a lot of our run and play action game, and made us sit in the
pocket and make plays. We just unable to do it. That's something
that hasn't happened to this offense in a long time. Give them
credit. They were the better team tonight. There's no doubt about
it."
(on the Cards' interception)
"We got ahead 7-0 then we had
the interception. We actually had a receiver open, and I thought we
were going to make a big play."
"We just didn't come off the ball. They came up and tackled
real well. I knew going into it they were good tacklers. I knew going
into the game that it would be a challenge to move the ball, but I never
expected this."
"First down has been our down all year long. They did a good
job defending it."
Memphis Head Coach Tommy West
"I think our kids now understand this defense, not just what
they do but why they do it. This a really, really good offensive
football team. Somehow we were able to stop their running game and keep
their quarterback under wraps."
"We played pretty good today because we didn't turn if over.
If we do that, I think we're hard to beat. I say that because I
think we've got some playmakers. Since we've stopped helping other
people and being so nice, we've played pretty good.
"Since I've been in this league, the two teams that have
been a measuring stick for us have been Southern Miss and Louisville.
So it's a big, big win for us. It's hard to win on the road, and
this is a team that has been on a pretty good roll. We're a very
confident football team right now."
(on Memphis' defensive success on first down vs. Louisville)
"They had no chance. I would have hated to have been in their shoes
calling plays in the first half. We had them backed up the whole time.
We played well, but the field position was the difference in the
game."
"Danny (Wimprine) has really played well in this four-game
stretch. He's throwing the ball away when it's not there. He's
just really doing smart things."
