Kyle Johnston begins his sixth season as the Head Athletic Trainer at the University of Louisville.
Johnston comes to Louisville after five seasons at the University of Florida. Johnston joined the program as a graduate assistant before moving into the role of interim assistant athletic trainer in his second season. He was given the full time position in January of 2007 as he completed his graduate work. In July of 2009, he was promoted to an Assistant Manager in the Sports Health Department while still serving the football team as an assistant athletic trainer.
Johnston came to Gainesville after working a year-long internship with the National Football League's Tampa Bay Buccaneers from June 2004 to May 2005.
Prior to Tampa Bay, Johnston worked as a student athletic trainer with the University of Kentucky. At Kentucky, Johnston spent a season as the head student athletic trainer for soccer, two seasons as the head student athletic trainer for men's basketball and one season as a student athletic trainer for football. Amidst his tenure at Kentucky, Johnston also worked summer internships with the Buccaneers in 2003 and the Miami Dolphins in 2002.
A native of Elizabethtown, Ky., Johnston earned his B.A. in Education majoring in Kinesiology/Exercise Science from the University of Kentucky in May 2004. He earned a Masters of Science in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology with an Emphasis in Human Performance from the University of Florida in May 2007. Johnston and his wife Jennifer reside in Louisville and have a daughter, Ella.
