Paul Gering enters his 21st season as a member of the Louisville football staff, and begins his 18th season as Special Assistant to the Head Coach.
For most Cardinal players, "Coach G" is the first face they see when arriving as a freshman on the U of L campus.
A graduate of the University of Louisville, Gering also served as the Cardinals' track coach from 1985-1988, garnering Metro Conference Coach of the Year honors in 1987.
Prior to returning to his alma mater, Gering served as an assistant coach and head track coach at duPont Manual High School from 1964-1984, guiding the Crimsons to a state title in track in 1975.
Gering began his career as an assistant football and track coach at Trinity High School from 1953-1965.
A native of Louisville, Gering graduated from Flaget High School where he was a member of two state title football teams in 1949 and 1952 before earning his bachelor of science and masters degrees in education from U of L in 1961.
In 2002, Gering was inducted into the Kentucky High School Coaches Association Legends Hall of Fame.
