LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's basketball team returns to the KFC Yum! Center to face Missouri Kansas City on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. ET.
Saturday's game will air exclusively on ESPN3, with Ryan Rose (play-by-play) and Darrin Horn (color) calling the action. The contest also will be available on WKRD (790 AM), as Paul Rogers (play-by-play) and Doug Ormay (color) call the game.
No. 5/6 Louisville is coming off an impressive 80-39 win at the College of Charleston, the Cougars' fewest points since becoming a Division I member in 1991-92. The Cardinals (7-1) jumped out to an early 32-11 lead behind the strength of their defense, which forced 16 first-half turnovers. The second half yielded similar results, holding the Cougars to just five points in the final 9:30. The 27 forced turnovers are the most for an opponent in the last eight years.
Wayne Blackshear led all scored with 18 points, adding four rebounds and three of the 18 steals for the Cardinals. Peyton Siva, who added five steals, went 5-of-10 from the field to finish with 12 points.
Through eight games, the Cardinals are ranked eighth in the nation in turnover margin (+8.9) and ninth in steals, averaging 12 per game.
Missouri Kansas City (3-4) won its last time out, 73-70, against North Dakota on Wednesday night. The Kangaroos received strong performances from their starters, as all five tallied double-digit points. Nate Rogers led the way with 16 points, while Fred Chatmon tallied a double-double with 10 points and 13 boards. Collectively, UMKC out-rebounded North Dakota, 41-28.
The Kangaroos are under the direction of sixth-year head coach Matt Brown, who has led the program to a 31-39 mark in non-conference games. He has coached eight players to all-Summit League awards. The Cougars recorded their first tournament win since 1991 this past season, claiming the Upper Division Title at the Chicago Invitation. They return four starters from last season, a team that went 10-21.
DONATE TOYS
