LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's basketball program officially opened the 2009-10 season on Thursday by hosting its annual media day activities at the Yum! Center on the U of L campus. Head coach Rick Pitino and the Cardinal players met with reporters to preview the upcoming season.

 

 

Louisville returns two starters and nine letterman from a team that made their second consecutive NCAA Elite Eight appearance, earned their first-ever Associated Press no. 1 national ranking, won their first BIG EAST Conference regular season title along with the league tournament championship and achieved their first overall no. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Overall, the Cards finished 2008-09 with a 31-6 record following the 64-52 loss to Michigan State in the NCAA Midwest Region Final.

On Wednesday, the Cards were selected to finish fourth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, while sophomore Samardo Samuels was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team.

The Cardinals will host a Red-White intra-squad scrimmage on Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. ET in Freedom Hall. U of L will open the exhibition season on Oct. 28 against Georgetown College at 7 p.m. ET in Freedom Hall and will open regular-season play on Nov. 17 against Arkansas in the Hall of Fame Showcase in St. Louis, Mo.
