LOUISVILLE, Ky. - It was a business-like approach at the initial practice session for the 2009-10 University of Louisville men's basketball team when it took the court on Friday evening as the Cardinals worked for three hours at the Yum! Center.

"We had a very intense three hour practice," said U of L Coach Rick Pitino, who enters his ninth year at Louisville and 24th as a collegiate head coach. "Our guys fought through it and gave great effort. A lot of work lies ahead, but we have a lot of potential." Additional comments from Pitino will be available on his web site at www.RickPitino.com.

The Cardinals plan to follow up Friday's session with two practices each on Saturday and Sunday with morning and evening sessions. U of L returns nine lettermen from last year's BIG EAST Championship team which also earned the top seed in the NCAA Tournament and reached the NCAA Elite Eight with a 31-6 record.

Fans can get a first look at the team at a Red-White intrasquad scrimmage on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. in Freedom Hall. Tickets for the event are $5 at the U of L Ticket Office; online at www.ticketmaster.com online, by calling (502) 361-3100 or by visiting any Ticketmaster Ticket Center, including statewide Kroger locations. Convenience fees are applied with Ticketmaster orders. Further information can be obtained by calling the U of L ticket office at (502) 852-5863.

U of L plays its first exhibition game on Oct. 28 against Georgetown College in Freedom Hall. The Cards open the season on Nov. 17 against Arkansas in the Hall of Fame Showcase in St. Louis, Mo.
