LOUISVILLE, Ky. - ESPN announced it will broadcast U.S. teams participating in the World University Games from July 6-17 in Kazan, Russia, to a national television audience for the first time in network history.

ESPNU and ESPN3 are set to carry 115 live hours of the 27th edition of the Summer Universiade. Forty hours of competition includes the United States’ men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s beach volleyball, track and field, men’s volleyball (indoor), and men’s water polo teams in action abroad.

Fans can follow the U.S. men’s basketball team, which includes UofL rising senior Luke Hancock, who was named to the final 12-man roster for the 2013 USA Basketball Men's World University Games Team last Saturday. Hancock was named the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player following the Cardinals’ national championship victory over Michigan in April.

The squad is scheduled for five pool play games, beginning on Sunday, July 7, against United Arab Emirates at 10:30 a.m. ET. The U.S. then faces the Czech Republic on July 8, followed by Sweden on July 10, Australia on July 11, and Canada on July 12.

The men’s quarterfinal games take place on July 14, with the semifinals scheduled for July 15, and the finals being held on July 16.

Louisville’s Shoni Schimmel, who helped the Cardinals advance to the national championship game this year, secured a spot on the USA Basketball Women’s World University Games Team. Should the U.S. advance past pool play, the women’s basketball semifinal game will be broadcast live on ESPNU on July 13 at 1 p.m., and the gold medal game is scheduled for July 15 at 1:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
