2012 BIG EAST MBB Brackets
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- University of Louisville men's basketball student-athletes Kyle Kuric and Chane Behanan have been selected for post-season honors in the BIG EAST Conference in a vote of the league head coaches.
A 6-4 senior from Evansville, Ind., Kuric was earned BIG EAST Honorable Mention honors, placing him among the top 21 players in the 16-team league. A 6-7 freshman from Cincinnati, Ohio, Behanan was named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie team, which featured seven players this year because of voting ties.
Kuric is the Cardinals' top scorer (12.9 ppg; 25th in the BIG EAST) and is fourth in the BIG EAST in three-pointers made per game for league games only (2.6 per game; 42-of-119). He has 41 career double-figure scoring efforts, including 23 this season. He needs four three-point goals to break into the career top ten for threes at UofL (155 currently).
Behanan is one of four freshmen that rank among the top ten freshmen scorers and top five freshmen rebounders in the BIG EAST Conference (others: St. John's Moe Harkless, Providence's LaDontae Henton and UConn's Andre Drummond). Behanan's 7.6 rebounding average is fourth among BIG EAST freshmen and 11th overall, while his 9.3 scoring average is 10th among freshmen. Behanan, who has six double-doubles this season, has averaged 10.7 points and 8.1 rebounds over the last 13 games while shooting 60.7 percent from the field (54-of-89). He has scored in double figures in 15 games and has grabbed six or more rebounds in 24 games.
Louisville (22-9, 10-8 BIG EAST) earned a first-round bye in the BIG EAST Championship to be played in New York's Madison Square Garden March 6-10. The No. 7 seed in the tournament, the Cardinals will play their first game in the event on Wednesday, March 7 at 7 p.m. against the winner of the Providence vs. Seton Hall matchup (ESPN).
