Teams, Dates Set for 2013 Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The field of teams and brackets for the 2013 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament, in which the University of Louisville will participate, have been announced. Eight teams will participate in two four-team brackets in the annual NCAA men's exempt tournament, sponsored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, staged Nov. 23-24, 2013 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. Joining the Cardinals in the four-team "Naismith Bracket" are North Carolina (ACC), Richmond (A10), and Fairfield (MAAC). The "Springfield Bracket" included Belmont (Ohio Valley Conference), Hofstra (CAA), Holy Cross (Patriot League) and Hartford (America East). "Once again this year's Tip-Off Tournament showcases some of the nation's best college basketball programs," said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. "We are excited to host the tournament again at the Mohegan Sun, and we are looking forward to seeing the great match-ups in November." Teams will play two games at campus sites and two in Uncasville, Conn. Louisville will face Hofstra on Nov. 12 and Hartford on Nov. 19 in the first two rounds, with both games in the KFC Yum! Center. The Cardinals will play Fairfield at Mohegan Sun Arena on Nov. 23, and either Richmond or North Carolina in the consolation or championship round on Nov. 24. Game times will be established at a later date. "We are excited to play in this impressive tournament which features such a highly competitive field," said UofL Coach Rick Pitino. "I'm sure that this prestigious event, which brings attention to our sport's history and iconic figures, will give our team a significant early test against quality competition."
