LOUISVILLE, Ky. -
Men's basketball senior guard Peyton Siva has been named the University of Louisville's American Eagle Outfitters Institutional Male Scholar-Athlete, as chosen upon by the BIG EAST Conference's Academic Affairs Committee.
A 6-foot guard from Seattle, Wash., Siva will receive $2,000 from American Eagle Outfitters to apply toward graduate studies. Each BIG EAST institution has one male and one female representative for the Scholar-Athlete Award. Soccer midfielder Angelika Uremovich was UofL's female recipient.
The BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year, Siva became the Cardinals' 64th career 1,000-point scorer after tallying 17 points against USF on Jan. 12. He also recently moved into second all-time on the career assists chart and is six short of reaching 600. Siva has been successful on the defensive end as well throughout his career, as he ranks sixth all-time in steals (214).
Siva was named to the Capital One District 2 Academic All-District men's basketball first team for the second-straight year. He is one of 12 finalists for the Bob Cousy award and one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award.
Notre Dame soccer standout Grant Van De Casteele was named the American Eagle Outfitters Big East Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and will receive a $4,000 scholarship toward his graduate studies.
