VOTE FOR PEYTON ~nbsp>SIVA
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's basketball's Peyton Siva has been selected as one of 10 finalists for the 2012-13 Senior CLASS Award, it was announced Friday.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.
Academically, Siva was named to the Capital One District 2 Academic All-District men's basketball first team for the second-straight year. By earning a spot on the all-district squad, Siva earns consideration for Capital One Academic All-America accolades.
For his performance on the court, Siva was named one of 12 finalists for the Bob Cousy award on Thursday. Tabbed the preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year, Siva is averaging 10.6 points per game and ranks 20th nationally with 6.1 assists per contest. At the conference level, he ranks third in the BIG EAST in assists per game, free throw percentage (86.9), steals per game (2.1) and is listed as having the eighth-best assist-turnover ratio (2.1) in the league.
Earlier this season, the Seattle, Wash., native became the Cardinals' 64th career 1,000-point scorer after tallying 17 points against USF on Jan. 12. He also recently moved into second all-time on the career assists chart and is 10 short of reaching 600. Siva has been successful on the defensive end as well throughout his career, as he ranks sixth all-time in steals (213). He is four shy of tying Alvin Sims (1993-97) and 17 short of tying Darrell Griffith for the school lead with 230.
The finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 30 men's candidates and 30 women's candidates announced in October. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website or on the Senior CLASS Award Facebook fan page through March 25. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner.
The men's Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2013 NCAA Final Four® in Atlanta April 6 and 8, while the women's winner will be declared during the NCAA Women's Final Four® in New Orleans April 7 and 9.
