LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Russ Smith scored a game-high 21 points, including 13 in the second half, to lead the White team to a 71-52 victory in the University of Louisville of men's basketball team's final Red-White scrimmage on Saturday in the KFC Yum! Center.
In a two-minute stretch in the third period, Smith scored 11 points, with three of his four baskets coming from beyond the arc. The senior finished the game going 9-of-18 from the field, 3-of-4 from 3-point range.
Smith and teammate Chris Jones combined for 11 of the White team's 19 assists and six of the team's 10 steals. Jones, who tallied 10 points, recorded a game-best six assists.
Montrezl Harrell and Mangok Mathiang bolstered the White team in the front court, combining for 28 points, 18 rebounds, 10 of which came on the offensive end, and Mathiang had three blocks. Mathiang's 12 points and 10 rebounds was the lone double-double on the team.
As a team, the White squad shot 9-of-17 from 3-point range, including an 8-for-12 stint in the second half. Thirty-one of the team's points came off turnovers.
The Red squad, which shot 36.7 percent from the field, was led by Tim Henderson's 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including five treys. Henderson added a team-high three steals.
Stephan Van Treese finished with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Cardinals play their first exhibition game on Oct. 29 against Kentucky Wesleyan in the KFC Yum! Center at 7 p.m. Louisville's second and final exhibition, also at home, will be held on Nov. 6 against Pikeville at 7 p.m.
