Louisville Summer Update: Tiberi, Funkhouser Continue to Shine

Blake Tiberi leads the NECBL in hitting with a .392 average while currently riding a 12-game hitting streak.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Here is the latest Louisville baseball summer update with highlights on the progress of the Cardinals' 21 players competing around the globe.

Louisville's 21 underclassmen are assigned to four different wooden bat leagues this summer as well as the USA Collegiate National Team. Following the completion of the collegiate summer season, players will return to campus for the fall semester in late August to continue the Cardinals' preparation for the 2015 college baseball season.

Listed below are updates on the progress of some of the Cardinals during summer league action as well as a complete list of 2014 Louisville baseball summer assignments.

Kyle Funkhouser earned his first win of the summer for Team USA on Monday while lowering his ERA to 0.49.

USA Collegiate National Team
- Righthanded pitcher Kyle Funkhouser earned his first win of the summer for Team USA turning in another strong performance in a 4-0 triumph over Chinese Taipei on July 14 during round robin action at Haarlem-Honkbal Week in The Netherlands. Funkhouser struck out four and allowed only three hits in 5.2 innings of shutout work in the victorious start. In four appearances and three starts for Team USA this summer, Funkhouser is 1-1 with a 0.49 ERA (1 earned run in 18.1 innings) and 22 strikeouts while allowing just four walks and 10 hits.

Cape Cod League
- In four appearances and three starts this summer for the Wareham Gatemen, lefthander Drew Harrington has earned a 1-1 record and a 1.62 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 16.2 innings pitched.

- Lefty pitcher Josh Rogers improved to 2-0 on the summer for the Bourne Braves after allowing one run in 6.2 innings against Chatham on July 11. Overall, Rogers has a 3.44 ERA in three starts and 15.2 innings in the Cape Cod League.

- Righty pitcher Zack Burdi has seven relief appearances this summer for the Chatham Anglers going 1-1 with a save and a 2.79 ERA in 9.2 innings.

- In five relief appearances this summer for the Bourne Braves, righty Jake Sparger is 1-0 with a 4.90 ERA in 7.1 innings pitched.

- In 13 games for the Wareham Gatemen this summer, infielder Danny Rosenbaum is hitting .263 with three doubles, four RBI and four runs scored.

New England League
- In 26 games for the Vermont Mountaineers, infielder Blake Tiberi leads the New England League in hitting with a .392 average to go with two home runs, five doubles, one triple, 17 runs scored, seven RBI and nine walks. Chosen as a 2014 NECBL All-Star for the Northern Division, he has hit safely in 12 straight games for Vermont, which also leads the Northern Division.

- Infielder Zach Lucas was 2-for-4 with a home run and a double last night for the North Adams SteepleCats. In his last five games, Lucas is hitting .380 (8-for-21) with a home run, four doubles, three RBI and three runs scored.

Coastal Plain League
- In 11 starts for the High Point-Thomasville Hi-Toms, outfielder Logan Taylor has a .474 average with 10 runs scored, six RBI and five stolen bases.
