Summer 2010: Spent the summer playing for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. Was Team USA's top everyday hitter with a .361 average to go with 18 runs scored, two home runs and 12 RBI. Started 17 of 19 games for Team USA through the summer. Was named top designated hitter at the 2010 World University Baseball Championships in Tokyo, Japan, after hitting .458 (11-for-24) with seven RBI and one home run in six games.
2010: Earned Second Team All-America honors from Baseball America and was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection as a sophomore. Also named to All-NCAA Regional Team. Led the Cardinals with 80 RBI, was second in hitting at .366 and second in home runs with 16 and was 10-for-11 in stolen bases. Started 60 games overall in the middle infield, with most of those starts coming at second base. Went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in NCAA Regional win over Vanderbilt. Was 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in NCAA Regional win over Saint Louis. Finished 2-for-6 with three RBI and a run scored in Cards' win over USF at BIG EAST Championship. Went 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run against St. John's on May 27. Was 2-for-5 with a home run and five RBI in May 26 win over WVU. Was 2-for-5 with a run scored in final game of sweep at Notre Dame on May 22. Hit 14th home run of the season in first game of doubleheader at UND on May 22. Went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in May 18 win over EKU. Was 2-for-5 and scored twice in May 16 win over St. John's. Finished 2-for-5 with three RBI in May 15 win against Red Storm. Hit 13th home run of the season on May 8 at Georgetown. Went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored in May 5 victory at Ohio State. Had a hit, an RBI and a run scored in each of the final two games of Rutgers series. Hit 12th home run of the season with two RBI in game one win over Scarlet Knights. Finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in Cards' comeback win over Kentucky on April 28. Also had the game-tying two-run single and scored the game-winning run against UK. Had a hit with two RBI and two runs scored in April 23 win over Seton Hall. Went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in April 21 win over WKU. Had a great series at WVU, going 7-for-15 with seven RBI, four runs scored and two home runs. Went 4-for-6 with a home run, three RBI and two runs in April 18 win at WVU. Was 2-for-6 with two RBI and a run in game two of April 17 doubleheader at WVU. Hammered a game-winning, two-run homer in the ninth inning of the Cardinals' 9-7 comeback win over Pittsburgh on April 11. Along with his ninth home run of the season, he finished 2-for-4 with three RBI in the win. Mashed his eighth home run of the season on April 9 at Pitt. Hit seventh home run of the season in April 3 win over Villanova. Was 4-for-5 with a home run, four RBI and two runs in April 1 win over VU. Hammered his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot to left center, on March 30 at Indiana. Finished 5-for-8 with a run scored in March 27 doubleheader against UConn. Was outstanding in three-game series against Ball State, going 10-for-14 (.714) with two home runs, six RBI and four runs scored. Went 3-for-4 with an RBI in game two of doubleheader with BSU after going 4-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored in game one. Opened series with Ball State by going 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs. After a slow start to the series in the first two games at Ole Miss, he went 4-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored in the March 14 series-clinching win over the Rebels. Was 2-for-3 with his second home run and three runs scored on March 7 against Le Moyne. Finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run in win over Dolphins on March 6. Had two RBI, two runs scored, a hit and a stolen base in the Cards' win over Evansville on March 3. Was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base in win over Minnesota at Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge. Finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in victory over Michigan State. Hammered his first home run of the season and was 2-for-3 overall with three RBI and two runs scored in win over Morehead State. Finished with the game-winning hit in each of the Cards' wins in their season-opening series sweep of Bowling Green on Feb. 19-20. Was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in both games of the Feb. 20 doubleheader against the Falcons. Was 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in Louisville's 13-1 season-opening win over BGSU.
2009: Earned Freshman All-America honors from Louisville Slugger, NCBWA and Ping!Baseball after hitting .335 with five home runs and 66 RBI while playing in all 65 games. Was an all-purpose player in his first season with the Cards, playing right field, left field, shortstop and third base and earning 64 starts. Was 12-of-16 on stolen base attempts and led the team with 11 sacrifices. Was named to the All-Regional team after going 2-for-4 in the Cards' title-game win over Vanderbilt, including a huge three-run homer off Commodores' ace Mike Minor. Earned All-BIG EAST Tournament honors after hitting .368 with six RBI and six runs scored in Cards' five games. Was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored in title-game win over UConn. Had at least one hit in each of the Cards' three wins over USF. Went 3-for-5 with an RBI in BIG EAST title-clinching triumph over USF on May 15. Finished 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored at St. John's on May 10. Hit his fourth career home run, a two-run bomb to left center, to lift the Cards to a 10-8 win over St. John's on May 8. Went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored in Cards' 21-5 win over Ohio State on May 5. Picked up an RBI double in May 2 win at Villanova. Finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in May 1 win at `Nova. Had a hit, an RBI and scored once in Cards' win at UK on April 28. Was 2-for-4 with a run scored on April 26 against Notre Dame and finished 2-for-3 with another run scored on April 25 against the Irish. Went 2-for-4 with a run scored against Vandy on April 22. Finished 2-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI in win at IU on April 21. Was 1-for-3 with two RBI in April 18 win at Rutgers. Finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored in Cards' April 17 win at RU. Had a hit and three RBI against Kentucky on April 14. Went 1-for-3 with a run scored in April 9 win over Pitt. Was 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored in Cards' win over IU on April 7. Went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored in Cards' win at Cincinnati on April 4. Finished 3-for-8 with one RBI and two runs scored in Cards' 17-inning win over Seton Hall on March 28. Was 3-for-4 with two RBI in the win over WKU on March 25. Finished 3-for-5 with his second career home run, two RBI and two runs scored in the win over Evansville. Was 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored against Georgetown on March 22. Also had a hit in each of the Cards' first two games against the Hoyas on March 20-21. Was 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs scored and a key sacrifice bunt in the Cards' 11-10 comeback win over Morehead State on March 18. Had his 13-game hitting streak end with 0-for-3 day at the plate against Iowa on March 15. Was 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored against Hawkeyes on March 14. Came through with an RBI single in eighth inning of the Cards' win at UT on March 11. Was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored on March 7 against EIU. His infield single in the seventh inning scored Josh Richmond from third in the Cards' 8-7 comeback win over Milwaukee on March 7. Finished 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored on March 6 against Milwaukee. Was 1-for-2 with an RBI on March 4 against WMU. Moved the streak to seven straight with a two-out, ninth inning single at EKU on March 3. Kept streak alive on March 1 against Bowling Green with eighth-inning single to score a run. Was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI on Feb. 28 against BGSU. Was 2-for-5 with a run scored in series-opener against BGSU on Feb. 27. Was 2-for-5 with two RBI and his first career stolen base in the win over EKU on Feb. 25. Earned a pair of starts against Florida on Feb. 20-22. Was 0-for-4 in his debut as the DH on Friday night, but was 1-for-2 on Saturday after replacing John Dao at shortstop. On Feb. 22, he got his first start at SS, going 1-for-4 at the top of the Cards' lineup against Florida. Named to AD Honor Roll and a BIG EAST Academic All-Star.
High School: Earned three letters in baseball at Homestead High School where he was coached by Keith Potter and Steve Sotir. Two-time All-State selection at shortstop. Three-time All-Conference selection. Two-time All-Area honoree. Homestead's career leader in home runs, runs and RBI. Hit .453 with 14 home runs, 14 doubles, 43 runs scored and 45 RBI as a senior. Hit .452 with 10 home runs, 32 runs scored and 27 RBI as a junior. Was .440 from the plate with five home runs, 36 runs scored and 32 RBI as a sophomore. Led the Spartans to the Indiana state championship game as a senior. Also earned three letters in football playing quarterback, wide receiver, punt/kick returner and safety. Two-time All-Conference and All-Area selection in football. Also earned Honorable Mention All-State.
Personal: Born on Dec. 3, 1989, in Columbus, Ohio. Son of Kevin and Karen Wright. Has one older sister Erin. Majoring in sport administration at U of L. After college, he hopes to play professional baseball. Person with the most influence on his athletic career is his dad, who used his personal experiences to guide him and support him. Hobbies and interests include anything related to sports and hanging out. Favorite movies are Dumb & Dumber, Superbad and Wedding Crashers. Favorite TV shows are SportsCenter, Family Guy and The Office. Favorite athletes are Alex Rodriguez, Ken Griffey, Jr., and Peyton Manning. Favorite foods include Fruit Loops, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, 3 Musketeers, pizza and chicken. Favorite restaurants are Applebee's and O'Charley's. Favorite team is the Cincinnati Reds. Enjoys listening to any music except rock. If he could eat dinner with three people, he would pick Jim Carrey, Peyton Manning and Alex Rodriguez. Ryan's father Kevin played baseball at Miami (Ohio) and his grandfather played professional hockey in the IHL.
