2012: Named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America, NCBWA All-America, BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and Third Team All-BIG EAST in outstanding first season as a Cardinal. Was 8-3 with a 3.38 ERA in 14 starts and 16 total appearances. Claimed third straight win and eighth overall with career-long 7.2 innings of work in series-clinching victory at Pittsburgh on May 19. Won seventh game of the season and second straight after allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts against St. John's on May 13. Earned sixth win of the season on May 6 at WVU after allowing only one earned run and two total runs on five hits. Suffered a no-decision on April 29 against UConn despite allowing only one unearned run on six hits in 5.0 innings pitched. Named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on April 16 for his performance against Kentucky on April 10. Had best outing of his career striking out career-best six in 6.0 shutout innings to earn his fifth win of the season in Cards' victory at No. 1 Kentucky. Improved to 4-0 on the season after allowing just one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts in 5.1 innings against WKU on April 3. Suffered a no-decision despite allowing just one run on three hits with four strikeouts in career-long 7.0 innings at No. 15 Purdue on March 27. Won his third straight start pitching 5.0 shutout innings with two strikeouts against Ohio State on March 20. Improved to 2-0 after career-best 5.2 innings pitched in March 13 victory over No. 12 Ole Miss. Allowed just one run on five hits in the win over the Rebels. Making first career start, pitched 5.0 innings allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts to earn his first ever win against Indiana on March 6. Came out of the bullpen with 2.0 innings of relief in collegiate debut allowing one run on three hits in Cards' win over Michigan State on Feb. 19.
High School: Played three seasons of prep baseball for coach Dan Roman at Lawrence Central High School. Selected in the 29th Round (878th overall) of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians. Ranked as one of the top 300 players in the nation in the class of 2011 by Perfect Game USA. Earned All-State, All-Conference and All-County honors. As a senior, went 6-1 with a 3.04 ERA and 59 strikeouts. Was 6-1 with a 2.12 ERA and 51 strikeouts as a junior after going 5-2 with a 3.21 ERA and 45 strikeouts as a sophomore. Prep teammate at Lawrence Central with current Cardinal Alex Chittenden.
Personal: Born Jared James Ruxer on July 29, 1992 in Indianapolis, Ind. Son of Jim and Lisa Ruxer. Has one sister, Addie. Undecided on a major at the University of Louisville. Not sure yet of his plans after college. Person with the greatest influence on his athletic career was his dad. Hobbies include fishing. Favorite TV shows are The Office and Eastbound & Down. Favorite athletes are Peyton Manning and Reggie Miller. Favorite cereal is Frosted Flakes. Favorite candy bar is Snickers. Favorite foods are steak and shrimp. Favorite teams are the Indianapolis Colts and the St. Louis Cardinals. Favorite restaurant is Red Lobster. If he could have dinner with three people, he would invite Peyton Manning, Roy Halladay and Reggie Miller.
