2009 Second Team All-BIG EAST

2009: Earned Second Team All-BIG EAST honors. Moved into the Cards' weekend rotation before an injury ended his season prematurely. Finished 3-2 overall with two saves and a 3.48 ERA. Also had 48 strikeouts in 41.1 innings and one complete-game shutout win against Pitt on April 11. Allowed four runs on four hits in only 2.0 innings while fighting stiffness and soreness in his lower back on April 25 against Notre Dame. Matched a career-high with 10 strikeouts and allowed only one run on four hits on April 18 at Rutgers to earn his third straight win as a weekend starter. Earned BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors after his one-hit shutout against Pitt on April 11. Pitched a career-best 8.0 innings anbd faced the minimum to earn his second straight win against Panthers. 58 of his 72 pitches in the April 11 win over Pitt were strikes and he struck out six overall. Had a strong start on April 4 at Cincinnati allowing only three runs on five hits with career-high 10 strikeouts in 7.0 innings to earn his first win of the season. Pitched 5.1 innings allowing four earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in his second start of the season on March 28 against Seton Hall. Was saddled with the loss against Georgetown on March 21 after allowing only one earned run and five total runs on four hits with four strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Pitched 1.1 innings of no-hit relief on March 16 against Iowa. Gave up a pair of runs on four hits and one walk in 2.0 innings of relief at UT on March 11. Earned his second save of the season with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief on March 7 in win over Milwaukee. Bounced back from the loss at Florida on Feb. 22 with back-to-back scoreless ninth inning appearances against Bowling Green on Feb. 28 and March 1. Picked up his first save of the season on Feb. 28 against BGSU with perfect ninth inning. Took the loss at Florida on Feb. 22 after giving up three straight two-out singles to the Gators in the ninth inning of the 3-2 defeat. Struck out four in 1.2 innings in the loss to UF. Named to AD Honor Roll and a BIG EAST Academic All-Star.

2008: Had an impressive freshman season, going 4-0 with a save, taking the hill 26 times in his career. Struck out 51 in 50.2 innings. Was 3-0 with a 3.12 conference ERA, fanning 18 in 17.1 innings in a team-high 12 appearances. Went a career-long six innings out of the bullpen, picking up the win over Villanova in the BIG EAST semifinals on May 23. Fanned one in two shutout innings at WVU on May 10 helping seal the win. His three innings of one-hit baseball earned him his first career save at IU on May 7. All five outs were strikeouts against WKU on April 30. Struck out a career-best six in 3.2 shutout innings to earn the win over UC on April 26. Made his first career start against UK on April 22, going a career-long 3.2 IP. With 1.2 scoreless innings at USF, he earned his second win of the season on April 11. Worked 1.2 scoreless innings, striking out two to earn his first career win over SJU on April 6. Struck out one in 1.1 hitless innings at Pitt (3/29). Worked 2.1 scoreless in win over Butler on March 26. Punched out one in a 1-2-3 ninth, closing the win over UConn on March 20. Tossed a scoreless frame in win over NCAT on March 2, striking out one.

High School: Led Dunbar to the 2007 State Championship with a single season record 14 wins on the hill, a 1.10 ERA and 109 strikeouts as a senior, earning All-State, All-District, Regional MVP and East/West All-Star honors. Named to the 2006 All-City and District All-Tournament teams while earning the INSIGHT KHSAA Academic All-State Award. Compiled a 5-2 record with a 1.25 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 57 IP on the Regional Runner-up his junior season. His 21 career wins is also a school record.

Personal: Born in Lexington, Ky., to Dana and Everett Royse on 9/7/88. Is considering majoring in business. His dad is his greatest influence on his athletic career. Tommy Boy is his favorite movie along with Dumb and Dumber. Likes to watch Jimmy Neutron on TV. Chipper Jones is his favorite athlete and he cheers on the Braves. He listens to country music. Salmon patties is his favorite food and he likes to eat out at O'Charley's. Not many people know that he likes to ride his bicycle. The best athlete he has ever faced was Ben Revere in the regional championships. His dream dinner guests would be Albert Einstein, Nolan Ryan and Jessica Biel.
