2001: Named First Team All-Conference USA after leading the league in saves with 10, tying a school record. Lead the team and was eighth in the league in opponents batting average(.265) and appearances with 28, tying another single season mark at U of L. Started six games, going the distance in four of those, including his first two of the season, getting complete game wins over UNC Asheville and Toledo five days apart in March. Whiffed ten batters in win over Rockets. His 74 strikeouts was tops on the team and the 10th highest total in Cardinal history. Notched a K in all but one of his 28 appearances, but walked only 24 in 89.1 innings. Tallied four saves in 13.1 IP, surrendering 15 hits, two earned runs, one walk and 14 strikeouts in an eight game stretch at the end of the season. Allowed one or no hits in 13 of his 22 relief outings. Tossed 9.1 innings against teams ranked in the top 15, giving up two earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six. Retired the top six batters in sixth-ranked Tulane’s lineup in order to pick up the save, snapping the Green Wave’s nation-long 15 game winning streak.
1999 & 2000: Pitched and played third base at Jefferson Davis Community College in Alabama. Team won state championship in Alabama during his tenure.
High School: Attended Niceville High School in Florida where he played baseball and was named team MVP and top offensive player his senior year. Hit .398 with eight homers, 16 steals and 24 RBI, while striking out 72 with a 2.13 ERA and a 7-2 record for the Eagles.
Personal: Born 10/28/79 in Del Rio, Texas to Gail and Don Ring. Major is sports administration. Would like to play pro baseball or open his own beach service back in Niceville. In his spare time he likes to canoe, and then snorkel for shark teeth in rivers. His dream dinner party would include Jesus, Lou Gehrig and his father-”because he has passed away and I miss him very much.”
