2002: Was 2-1 with a 5.52 ERA, appearing in 13 games, starting four. Won on consecutive starts in a six-day span over Xavier(4/17) when he tossed four scoreless innings of two-hit ball and Morehead State(4/23) when whiffed a career high seven in 6.1 frames. Put together a mid-season stretch of 20.2 innings in which he allowed three earned run on just 17 hits-14 of which were singles. Tossed 5.1 consecutive innings of hitless relief in three outings. 2001: Was 10th in the nation in strikeouts per nine innings at South Suburban Community College, fanning 68 in 58 innings of work. Was 6-3 with a 3.51 ERA. Struck out 10 in seven innings, surrendering just one run against College of Lake County(3/31). Picked up 13 K’s in eight frames against Kankakee Community College(4/12), giving up 2 runs on three hits. Named to the JUCO Division I Region IV All-Region team. 2000: Joined fellow Cardinal Dan Cunningham with the Bulldogs as a freshman, posting a 4-4 record with 59 strikeouts and a ERA of 4.80. High School: Attended Thornwood High School as a freshman and sophomore, lettering both season and posting a 13-3 record. Finished with the Rebels of Thornton Fractional High School, going 7-3 with a 2.32 ERA and 76 K’s as a junior. Fanned a school record 125 his senior season, going 11-2 with a 1.54 ERA and two saves for the conference champs. Was named IHSAACP first team All-State and second team by the Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune. Tossed a perfect game against his former high school. Personal: Born 3/25/80 in Munster, Indiana to Jerry and Lil Novak. Majoring in business management at U of L and would like to someday run his own business. Has an older brother and a younger sister. Major leaguer Mark Mulder, Cliff Floyd and Steve Trout all attended Thornwood HS. Likes to play guitar, collect tropical fish and playing X Box with "Hank" and "Tizzy" in his spare time. Is a Bears and White Sox fan. Faced Antwan Randle-El in high school. Would like to play golf with Adam Sandler, SpongeBob SquarePants and Jesus.
