2014: Selected 46th overall in the second round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins to become highest draft pick in school history. Chosen as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year finishing with a school record 18 saves, a 3-1 record, a 0.49 ERA and 65 strikeouts in 37.0 innings pitched. Became Louisville's single season saves leader (18th) recording final three outs in win over Kennessee State to clinch Cardials' CWS berth on June 7. Tied single season record for saves with 17th in win over KSU in opening game of NCAA Super Regional. Earned a pair of saves in the NCAA Regional, including the finale against Kentucky after recording the final three outs of the game. Recorded the final out of the game on May 15 against Cincinnati to earn the 14th save of the season. Named American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on May 12 after striking out 13 and allowing only one hit in three scoreless relief appearances on May 6-11. Made his third straight scoreless relief outing working the ninth inning of the Feb. 23 series finale with Western Michigan. Pitched a perfect ninth inning by striking out the side in order in Cardinals' home-opening win over Eastern Kentucky on Feb. 19. Delivered a score less 10th inning to earn the victory in Louisville's season-opening 10-inning win over West Virginia.
2013: Named First Team All-America by Perfect Game and was chosen Second Team All-America by NCBWA as the Cardinals' closer. Ranked 11th nationally and earned the second highest save total in school history with 16 while finishing with a 0.76 ERA, the second lowest all-time for the Cardinals. Had 62 strikeouts in 35.2 innings of work and 29 total relief appearances and finished with a 3-3 record overall on the mound. Worked 1.2 innings of shutout relief with one strikeout to pick up 16th save in Cardinals' NCAA Super Regional opener at Vanderbilt. Earned 15th save of the season after striking out three in two shutout innings against Miami in game two of NCAA Regional. Named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on May 20 after earning three saves during the week, including two in the series sweep of No. 16 Pittsburgh. Had 1.1 of scoreless work in Louisville's series-opener against the Panthers before striking out three in a scoreless ninth inning in the series finale with Pitt to increase save total to 14. Recorded the final four outs with two strikeouts to pick-up his 12th save of the season in the Cardinals' win at Ohio State on May 14. Earned fifth save of the season after striking out five and allowing just one hit and a walk in 1.2 innings of shutout relief in March 23 win over Rutgers. Struck out three while working 1.1 innings of shutout relief to earn his fourth save of the season in Cards' 6-3 win over USC on March 20. Picked up his third save of the season and his second straight with a perfect ninth inning against Xavier on March 16. Earned second save of the season working a perfect ninth inning, including two strikeouts, on March 13 against Purdue. Made fifth straight scoreless appearance with a scoreless ninth inning in Cardinals' win over Alabama in March 10 series finale. Pitched season-high three innings of shutout baseball striking out a career best seven in Louisville's series-opening win over Crimson Tide on March 8. Made third straight scoreless relief appearance striking out two in ninth inning against Kent State on March 3 .Earned first career save with dominant ninth inning performance against Akron on Feb 24 when he had three strikeouts and flashed 100 mph on the stadium radar gun three times. Pitched a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts in the Cardinals' win over Purdue.
2012: Was 1-2 with a 5.56 ERA in 13 appearances, including three starts, and 22.2 innings. Pitched an inning of shutout relief against Morehead State on May 15. Came out of the bullpen for 2.0 innings of shutout relief with two strikeouts against St. John's on May 12. Pitched an inning of shutout relief at WKU on May 1. Made his fourth straight scoreless relief appearance with a shutout inning at USF on April 21. Pitched a perfect ninth inning to close out the Cards' 12-7 win over Seton Hall on April 14. Pitched one shutout inning of relief in Cards' April 1 win over Villanova. Came out of the bullpen for a scoreless inning of relief against Ohio State on March 20. Dropped his second game of the season in March 14 loss to No. 12 Ole Miss after allowing four earned runs on six hits in 2.1 innings. Took his first career loss after allowing two runs on five hits in 3.1 innings against Eastern Illinois on Feb. 28. Made collegiate debut by pitching 4.0 shutout innings with four strikeouts and allowing just two hits to earn the win in the starting role against EKU on Feb. 22. Worked out of a bases loaded, no-out jam in the first inning of the win over EKU.
High School: Selected in the 24th Round (748th overall) of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins. Three-year letterwinner in baseball playing for coach Darren Orel at Downers Grove South High School. Ranked as one of the top 50 players in the nation in the class of 2011 by Perfect Game USA. Named Most Valuable Player for the East Squad at the 2010 Under Armour All-American Game. Also competed at the 18U USA Trials and the Area Code Games. Earned All-American, All-State and All-Conference honors and was 22-2 in his prep career at Downers Grove South. As a senior, finished 7-1 with one save, a 1.21 ERA and 70 strikeouts. As a junior, was 9-0 with a 0.89 ERA, two saves and 90 strikeouts, while as a prep sophomore, was 6-1 with a 1.89 ERA, three saves and 52 strikeouts. Also earned two letters in football as a quarterback.
Personal: Born Nicholas Burdi on Jan. 19, 1993 in Hinsdale, Ill. Son of Bob and Debbie Burdi. Has two brothers, Drew and Zack. Majoring in sport administation at the University of Louisville. Biggest thrill in sports was winning the Central Regional to advance to the Connie Mack World Series. After college, he plans to play professional baseball. Person with the greatest influence on his athletic career was his dad because he always pushed him to achieve his dreams. Hobbies and outside interests include listening to music and hanging out with friends. Favorite movies are The Hangover, Miracle and The Shawshank Redemption. Favorite TV shows are Entourage, The League and The Office. Favorite athletes are Josh Beckett and Michael Jordan. Favorite food is chicken parmesan. Favorite teams are the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Blackhawks. Favorite restaurants are Carrabba's and Buffalo Wild Wings. Enjoys listening to just about any type of music. If he could have dinner with three people, he would invite his dad, Adam Sandler and Josh Beckett. His brother Drew played football at Western Michigan University.
