2014: Was 1-0 with a 3.48 ERA in 17 relief appearances and 10.1 innings pitched as a sophomore. Worked one inning of shutout relief with one strikeout in May 16 win over Cincinnati. Pitched a perfect eighth inning against the 3-4-5 hitters in the UCF lineup in the April 18 win over the Knights. Had two strikeouts in two innings of shutout relief without allowing a hit against Butler on March 29. Worked 0.2 innings of shutout relief in first appearance of the season on Feb. 15 at The Citadel.
2013: Made 14 relief appearances in first college season finishing with a 3.38 ERA and no decisions in 8.0 innings pitched. Had a key bases loaded strikeout in the Cardinals' 5-2 series-opening win over Pittsburgh on May 16. Chipped in with 0.2 innings of scoreless relief in game two win of Cardinals' doubleheader sweep at UConn on May 11. Retired the only batter he faced in a scoreless relief outing in Cardinals' win over No. 14 Indiana on May 8. In longest outing of young career, pitched 2.1 innings of shutout relief in Cards' win over USC on March 19. Had second straight scoreless relief stint with an inning of work against Morehead State on Feb. 26. Made first career appearance for the Cardinals pitching 1.1 innings of shutout relief while striking out two in Feb. 23 win over Akron.
High School: Played four seasons of prep baseball at Eastern High School. Earned First Team All-State honors and First Team All-Region accolades as a senior. Two-time East-West All-Star selection and two-time All-District honoree. As a senior, hit .341 with 23 RBI, seven doubles and 33 runs scored, while on the mound ,was 11-1 with a 1.70 ERA and 80 strikeouts. As a junior, hit .336 with two home runs, nine doubles, 31 RBI and 30 runs scored at the plate, while going 4-2 with a 2.13 ERA on the mound. Graduated as Valedictorian of senior class at Eastern. Named to EHS Honor Roll all four years of prep career. Also earned two letters in basketball as a forward/center and one letter in cross country at Eastern.
Personal: Born Jonah Smith Philley on April 8, 1994 in Louisville. Son of Jennifer and Dave Philley. Has two brothers, Jake and Calvin, and one sister Jordan. Majoring in business at UofL. Biggest thrill in sports was beating Ballard in the bottom of the seventh in a regional semifinal. After college, he wants to have a career in business and accounting. People with the greatest influence on his athletic career are his parents because they taught him how to push himself and strive to be successful. Hobbies and interests include hanging out with friends and playing golf. Favorite movie is Friday Night Lights. Favorite TV show is The Big Bang Theory. Favorite athlete is Brandon Phillips.
