2013: Earned Third Team All-BIG EAST honors and was team's leading hitter with a .339 average to go with one home run, nine doubles and 13 stolen bases in 60 starts. Made 14 relief appearances on the mound with a 2.08 ERA and one save. Went 5-for-7 in Cardinals' two College World Series games in Omaha. Was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored against Rutgers in BIG EAST Championship. Hit safely in all three games in the sweep of Pitt. Was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Cards' series-opening win at UConn on May 11. Connected for first home run of the season while going 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs on April 9 at WKU. Had five hits and hit safely in all three wins at Cincinnati. Was 2-for-5 with a double and a stolen base in finale at UC. Went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored in win over Bearcats at Great American Ball Park in Reds Collegiate Invitational on April 6. Hit safely in all three wins over No. 15 Notre Dame. Doubled, was hit by a pitch, had three RBI and scored once in opener against Irish. Was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in March 19 win over USC. Tripled, walked twice and scored once in March 13 win over Purdue. Had five hits in three-game sweep of Alabama. Was 2-for-3 with two walks and a run scored in March 10 series finale with Crimson Tide. Added two hits, a run and a stolen base in March 9 win after singling, walking and knocking in one in series-opening victory over UA. Went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Feb. 22 win over Akron. Was 4-for-5 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base in Feb. 20 win over EKU. Also made first appearance of 2013 on the mound against EKU. Hit safely in all three games at the BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge. Was 2-for-5 with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored in win over USF in Clearwater, Fla. Had a single, a walk, was hit by a pitch and stole one base in season-opener against Indiana.

Summer 2012: Was the leadoff hitter in 50 of 51 games for the Wareham Gatemen and was a key ingredient as the team won the Cape Cod League title. Hit .367 with one home run, four RBI, five runs scored and three doubles in seven playoff games. Hit .307 with six home runs, 19 RBI, 43 runs scored, 11 doubles and two triples in 50 total games with Wareham (regular season and playoffs combined). Was 2-0 with one save, 11 strikeouts and a 3.18 ERA in eight relief appearances and 11.1 innings pitched.

2012: Earned Second Team All-BIG EAST honors. Hit .321 with one home run, 45 RBI, 42 runs scored, 11 doubles and five triples in 63 games and 62 starts. Was 2-for-6 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored in Cards' elimination game win over Missouri at the NCAA Regional in Tucson. Went 3-for-5 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in BIG EAST tourney win over Pitt. Was 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in May 19 win at Pitt. Pitched 1.2 innings of shutout relief in Cards' May 17 over Panthers. Reached base in all five plate appearances against Morehead State with a single, two walks and two HBPs. Earned second save of the season with 1.2 innings of shutout relief in series-clinching win over St. John's. Was 2-for-3 with his first career home run and an RBI double in the loss at Vanderbilt on May 8. Earned first career save with career-long 2.2 innings of shutout relief at WVU on May 5. Had five hits, three RBI, two stolen bases and three runs scored in series win at USF. Was 2-for-4 with two runs in opener and went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run in game two. In first game as leadoff hitter, singled, walked twice, had two RBI and scored once in April 17 win at Indiana. Had five hits, including two doubles, and five RBI in series against Seton Hall. Went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in finale with Pirates. Was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored at the plate in April 10 win at No. 1 UK. Had one strikeout and allowed only one hit in 1.2 innings of shutout relief in win at Kentucky. Pitched an inning of perfect relief in Cards' April 3 win over WKU. Had a double and scored once in 2-for-4 outing in April 1 win over Villanova. Went 4-for-5 with career-high five RBI and delivered 1.2 innings of shutout relief with three strikeouts in Cards' March 25 win over Cincinnati. Reached base with a single and an HBP, had a sac bunt and an RBI in March 20 win over Ohio State. Pitched an inning of shutout relief with two strikeouts against Ball State on March 18. Was 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in March 17 win over Ball State. Had two hits and an RBI against No. 12 Ole Miss on March 14. Was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in win over Oral Roberts. Had his fourth two-hit game of the season and added an RBI against EIU on Feb. 28. Made first appearance of the season on the mound against Oakland on Feb. 26 when he allowed just one run on one hit with three strikeouts in 2.0 innings of work. Finished 2-for-4, including first career triple, with an RBI and a run scored in home win over EKU. Went 5-for-9 with two runs scored and an RBI in season-opening Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge. Was 2-for-4 with a run scored in 4-3 win over Illinois. Was 2-for-3 with a double and a run against Minnesota.

2011: Hit .209 with six RBI and four stolen bases in five attempts in 42 appearances as a position player, including 28 starts. Was 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA in nine relief appearances on the mound. Had a scoreless relief appearance against Vanderbilt on May 10. Allowed two runs on one hit in less than an inning relief at Seton Hall on May 7. Was 2-for-4 with a run scored at St. John's on April 15. Finished 2-for-4 with a career best three runs scored in the April 8 win at Cincinnati. Reached base with two walks and scored twice at WKU on April 5. Was 2-for-4 with an RBI in April 3 win over WVU. Had career best six-game hitting streak ended on April 2 against WVU. Had a hit and a run scored in March 29 win over WKU. Had second straight two-hit performance going 2-for-4 with a run scored in March 22 win over Kent State. Was 2-for-4 as the Cards' leadoff hitter on March 20 against Xavier. On the mound, he allowed two runs on three hits with two strikeouts in career-long 2.1 innings of relief against Xavier on March 18. Finished with a hit, an RBI and a run scored as the Cards' leadoff hitter in the win over Morehead State on March 1. Also made collegiate pitching debut with a 0.1-inning relief appearance against Eagles. Made first career start against Toledo on Feb. 27 going 1-for-3 with a run scored as the Cardinals' leftfielder. Appeared in all three of the Cardinals' games at the BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge. Had an RBI single in the season-opening win over Michigan.

High School: Sturgeon was a two-time All-State selection, two-time Region Player of the Year, four-time Academic All-State and two-time All "A" State Tournament MVP during his prep career at Owensboro Catholic High School, where he was coached by Allen Cox. As a senior, he earned First Team All-State honors after hitting .425 with two home runs, 20 RBI, 14 doubles, 20 stolen bases and 26 runs scored at the plate while finishing with a 6-1 record on the mound with a 0.92 ERA, two saves and 92 strikeouts. He hit .390 with 23 stolen bases and 25 runs scored as a junior and finished 8-3 on the mound with a 0.87 ERA and 97 strikeouts. As a sophomore, he hit .372 with 22 stolen bases and 21 runs scored, while on the mound, he was 7-2 with a 0.48 ERA and 90 strikeouts. He participated in the 2009 World Wood Bat Association 17U National Championship event. He also earned four letters in basketball and two letters in football at Owensboro Catholic.

Personal: Born Cole Michael Sturgeon on Sept. 17, 1991, in Owensboro, Ky. Son of Mike and Cyndi Sturgeon. Majoring in business finance at the University of Louisville. After college, he plans to work in the front office for a professional sports team. Person with the greatest influence on his athletic career is his dad, who has been there for him through the best and worst times. Hobbies and outside interests include history. Favorite movies are 300 and Step Brothers. Enjoys watching Criminal Minds and Baseball Tonight. Favorite athletes are David Ortiz and Chipper Jones. Favorite food is mac `n' cheese. Enjoys eating at Buffalo Wild Wings. Favorite teams are the Boston Red Sox and the Buccaneers. If he could eat dinner with three other people he would choose Charles Barkley, John Wooden and Michael Jordan. Something not many people know about Cole is that he became Catholic when he was 16. His father Mike played baseball at Louisiana-Lafayette.
