LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville track and field's Ben Williams has been named the American Athletic Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.

Williams, who made his Louisville debut on Friday at the Hoosier Open in Bloomington, Ind., won the triple jump in impressive fashion with a leap of 15.96m/52-4.50. Williams' closest competition finished more than two-feet shy of his mark and the jump currently ranks No. 1 in the conference and the country.

A Newcastle, United Kingdom, native, Williams won a 2009 world youth championship and is a U-20 National Championships record holder.

The Cardinals continue their indoor season on Jan. 11 with the Gene Edmonds Cup in West Lafayette, Ind.
