Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville track and field teams as well as multiple individuals earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic honors on Tuesday.

The women's team was tabbed a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for the 10th straight year after recording a 3.29 cumulative grade-point average. On the men's side, Louisville earned the honor for the second straight season with a 3.27 cumulative GPA.

Individually, the women placed four student-athletes and the men place three student-athletes on their respective men's and women's USTFCCCA All-Academic teams.

Liberty Slinden led the way on the women's side, holding a 3.57 grade-point average in psychology, earning her second straight USTFCCCA All-Academic honor. Teammates Brittany Owens (psychology; 3.48), Benadate Cheruiyot (public health; 3.40) and Jenna Wargo (graphic design; 3.32)also received academic honors.

Sam Bombaugh had the highest grade-point average on the men's side, boasting a 3.90 GPA. It's the third-straight year he has earned the award. Earlier this month, the political science major was selected as a CoSIDA Capital One Track and Field All-American. Tyler Byrne earns the honor for the second straight year with a 3.81 in justice administration. Byrne was also named a CoSIDA Capital One Track and Field All-American this season. Brad Vivace, a human & health performance major, was named to the all-academic team with a 3.60 GPA.

 

 

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the top 96 nationally in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
