LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Five members of the University of Louisville track and field teams are heading west this week to participate in the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays Distance Carnival and Invitational in Walnut, Calif., from Thursday to Friday.
On the first day of competition, Edwin Kibichiy and Ernest Kibet will take part in the men’s 10,000m invitational elite at 12:46 a.m. ET (9:46 p.m. ET local time). Approximately 30 minutes later, Tyler Byrne is scheduled to run in the Elite Olympic Development section of the event.
The three each have competed in 5,000m events this season and rank in the top five in the conference at that distance. Byrne’s time of 14:12.88 ranks 35th in the region and 58th nationally. He advanced to last year’s NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round in the 10,000m after clocking a personal-best time of 29:46.08.
Cheruiyot, slated to run at 10:10 p.m. ET, made her season debut in the event at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational, clocking a time of 10:51.56. Her time ranks 62nd in the region. Wolter earned first team All-America honors in the event last year with his sixth-place finish at the national championships. He owns the 10th-fastest time in the country, fourth in the region, in the steeplechase at 8:51.91.
The majority of Louisville’s team will be competing on Saturday at the UK Relays in Lexington, Ky.
