INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Louisville track and field teams return to action this week with the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational, the program's first home outdoor meet this season. Competition begins Friday and continues on Saturday.
Live results will be available on GoCards.com and complete results will be posted following the meet. Along with the host Louisville, participating teams consist of Kent State, DePaul, Loyola (Chicago), Central Michigan, and Illinois' men's squad.
The first day of action features the men's and women's hammer throw and shot put events.
Sam Bombaugh headlines the five-man group in the hammer throw after earning All-America honors last year and winning the conference title in the event. During the course of the season, he broke the 20-year-old record with a toss of 62.94m/206-6. The women's section features four throwers, including Patrice Gates who took second in the league championships in the hammer throw.
In the shot put, Brad Vivace will compete in the men's event after winning the BIG EAST title last season, while Liberty Slinden is one of two Cardinals in the women's shot put competition. She finished fourth at last year's conference championships.
Day two begins with the men's and women's discus followed by four jumping events: men's pole vault, women's high jump, women's long jump, and the men's long jump.
Later in the day, All-American Mattias Wolter is one of three scheduled to compete in the men's 3,000m steeplechase. The senior cruised to the league title last year and then took sixth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the event.
The sprinting events begin at approximately 1:45 p.m., with the women's 100m hurdles and then the men's 110m hurdles. Calvin Arsenault, currently the school record holder in the event, placed third last week.
The women's 800m race is scheduled at 3:20 p.m., which features indoor AAC champion Kelsey Cramsey. The sophomore shattered the school record with a time of 2:05.6h, five seconds faster than the previous standard.
The meet winds down with the men's 400m hurdles, the 200m, the women's javelin, the men's and women's 5,000m, and then the women's and men's 4x400m relays, respectively.
