INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - University of Louisville jumper Andre Black became the third Cardinal track and field team member to earn a spot on Team USA for the IAAF World Junior Championships after his second-place finish in the triple jump on Friday afternoon at the USA Junior Championships at IU Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium.

Black, a native of Mobile, Ala., who recently completed his freshman season at U of L, had a mark of 51 feet, 5.5 inches on his first jump of the day to earn the second and final qualifying position in the event for Team USA. He will join Louisville teammates Cory Thorne (3,000m steeplechase) and Tone Belt (long jump) in Beijing, China, on Aug. 15-20 for the IAAF World Junior Championships. Black is also an alternate for Team USA in the long jump after a third-place finish on Thursday afternoon.

"It's truly a blessing for me to get the opportunity to represent my country and to travel to China for the World Junior Championships," said Black. "I came out focused and ready to compete today and that was important. I really want to thank Coach (Ron) Mann and Coach (Jake) Jacoby for everything they've done for me since I've been in Louisville."

On Thursday, Thorne became the Cards' first Team USA qualifier and the program's first junior national champion with a win in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Belt became U of L's second qualifier this year with a second-place finish in the long jump.

"I'm proud of Andre's performance and the way he's competed all season long," said U of L head coach Ron Mann. "I know he didn't finish the college season the way he expected, but he bounced back in a strong way this week and he deserves this. To have three athletes representing Team USA at the World Junior Championships is a great honor for the Louisville track and field program, and it's just the latest in a season full of accomplishments for our athletes."

On Saturday, NCAA All-American Kelley Bowman will compete in the open high jump at 5:45 p.m. ET at the AT&T USA Outdoor Championships, which is run in conjunction with the USA Junior Championships.
