LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville track and field’s Edwin Kibichiy capped the Cardinals’ run at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with an 11th-place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase finals on Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
The lone freshman in the competition, Kibichiy clocked a time of 8:59.02 and finished his time at the national championships with second team All-America honors. Kibichiy ran with the lead pack early in the race, but was unable to sustain pace after the 1,800m split.
The Kenyan native finished seventh in the 3,000m steeplechase semifinals on Thursday to earn a spot in Saturday’s final.
Louisville concluded the 2014 outdoor season with a pair of second team All-Americans - Kibichiy and Brittany Owens (long jump) - and two honorable mention All-Americans - Calvin Arsenault (400m hurdles) and Tyler Byrne (10,000m).
