LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Chanel Krause shattered the University of Louisville track and field’s pole vault record on Saturday at the Bellarmine Classic at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium in Louisville after breaking the mark initially earlier this season.
Krause led Louisville with a runner-up finish, taking second in the pole vault competition after clearing 4.15m/13-7.25 - an eight-inch improvement. Notably, the Mobile, Ala., native is tied for 12th in the East region, with the second-highest mark of any freshman, and is tied for the top height in the AAC. She first broke the seven-year-old record at the Border Battle on a leap over the bar at 3.92m/12-10.25.
Teammate Chelsea Bingham also compiled an impressive day in the event, clearing the bar at a personal-best 3.85m/12-7.50. While the mark ranks seventh in the AAC, it is just outside the top 48 in the East region at No. 53.
On the men’s side, Kevin Jackson logged a collegiate-best outdoor mark in the pole vault. The senior, on his third attempt, leapt over the bar at 4.85m/15-11 to put himself in a tie for 11th at the conference level.
Louisville begins competition at the AAC Outdoor Championships in Tampa, Fla., from May 2-4. The three-day event will be held at the USF Track and Field Stadium.
