ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Louisville track and field teams opened their outdoor campaign on Thursday at the Alabama Relays, with four throwers finishing in the top 10 in at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Patrice Gates was one of three Cardinals who placed in the top 10 in the women’s hammer throw. The senior moved into the top five on her final throw, registering a mark of 55.00m/180-5 to take fourth. Rachel Serafin finished sixth behind nearly a 10 foot personal best, and Hannah Baker checked in at No. 7.
The day started with four events in the women’s heptathlon. Brianne Brown took seventh in both the women’s 100m hurdles and the 200m, while Hannah Cox’s top finish came in the 200m with an 11th-place showing.
The Cardinals return to action for the second of the three-day competition on Friday, beginning with the women’s heptathlon long jump at 12:05 p.m. ET.
