Swimming Places Third in 4x100 in World Championship Trials

The foursome of Leslie VanWinkle, Anna Dishuck, Aileen Cole and Liz Halet combined to post a time of 3:50.68 to finish third in the 4 x 100m freestyle at the 2009 ConocoPhillips National Championships and World Championship Swim Trials at the Indiana University Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis.

"We love relays and we are glad to race tonight and continue to get world class opportunites for three vet for our veterans (VanWinkle, Dishuck, and Halet) but also for our freshman, Aileen, to get experience racing against the best in the country and to finish third makes me very pleased," said U of L coach Arthur Albiero.

Louisville Cardinal Whitney Campbell swam anchor for her home swim club of deAnza Cupertino (Calif.) in the same event and helped her team finish second. "It's all in the family," said Albiero. "It is a win-win for us." Cardinal Rafal Kuchta won the C Final in the 200-fly with a lifetime best of 1:59.65.

"That was an amazing swim and a lifetime best for him and breaking the 2 minute barrier is a special landmark for him -- just a super swim ," said Albiero.

Up tomorrow for the Cardinals will be Kris Findorff, Whitney Campbell and Liz Halet in the 50M freestyle and Leslie VanWinkle in the 400m IM.

This competition is the selection meet which determines the U.S. National Team that will compete at the 2009 World Championships in Rome from July 22-August 2. Complete Results
