University of Louisville All-American swimmer Joao De Lucca set a meet record in the 200-meter freestyle on the first night on the 2012 Maria Lenk Brazilian National Championship meet yesterday in Rio de Janeiro. The meet is serving as another qualifying meet for Brazil's Olympic team.

Louisville All-American Joao De Lucca , who recently helped the University of Louisville to a top-10 finish at the men's Division I NCAA championships, just missed the automatic Olympic qualifying time of 1:47.82 with a winning time of 1:48.2. De Lucca has been getting a lot of hype as his notable improvements as a sophomore led to a lot of hope for him back home in Brazil and he delivered with a new Meet Record in the men's 200 free in 1:48.26.

According to Swimming World Magazine, that puts him into the top-5 all-time in Brazilian history. He could give Brazil back the force in the 200-free that they've been lacking since Thiago Pereira stopped swimming the event seriously. De Lucca said after the race that he was shooting for a 1:47-mid, and a FINA Automatic Qualifying Time, to lead off his club Flamengo's 800 free relay later in the meet.
