CHARTRES, France - University of Louisville swimmer, Thomas Dahlia, is the new French National Champion in the 200-meter breaststroke, with a time of 2:11.43. The French National European Trials began on Tuesday, April 8 and will conclude Sunday, April 13 in Chartres, France.
Representing his home club, Antibes, Dahlia finished just ahead of his club teammate, Quentin Coton who swam a 2:11.60. Dahlia's time puts him in the top-ten in the world, according to FINA, the International Swimming Federation. Dahlia, who is a junior at U of L, also dropped his personal-best time down from 2:13.80.
"Thomas has earned all he has achieved this season," U of L head coach Arthur Albiero said, "He has been on a mission all season. I am not surprised by his performances. This swim in the 200-breast opens up more opportunities for him in the next two years."
By finishing first, Dahlia automatically qualifies for the European Championships that will take place from August 13 - 24 in Berlin, Germany.
