Carlos Almeida finished fifth in the 200-breast with a time of 1:54.27 to score 14 points for the Cardinals at the 2010 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships Sunday evening at McCorkle Aquatic Center on the campus of Ohio State University. The points pushed the Cardinals into 21st place going into the final relay.
Almeida shaved .42 of a second off his preliminary time in the 200-breast and it was enough to move up two spots as the University of Louisville sophomore became the highest ever finisher in the NCAA Championships for the Cardinals.
In the other individual event, Pedro Oliveira finished 16th in the 200-fly with a time of 1:44.33, resetting his own school record.
"I am so proud of how we raced all weekend," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero. "We have so much to build on after this."
