As a junior, Matt helped set the school record in the 200-free relay, the 400-free relay and the 800-free relay. He helped score points at the conference championship with a 4th place in the 200-free and a 7th in the 500-free. As a sophomore, Matt helped set the school record in the 200-free relay and set new marks in the 200-free and the 500-free. His performance in the 500-free got him to the medal stand at Conference with a second place finish. In the dual meet season, he had wins at Evansville, Saint Louis, Eastern Illinos, Boston College, Virginia Tech and Butler. In 2002-03, he had a notable victory in the 100-fly at the Bowling Green Invitational where he beat competitors from Cleveland State, Saint Louis and Bowling Green. He had a strong performance at the conference meet, finishing seventh in the 200-fly and was top ten in the 100-fly. His spirit and enthusiam for swimming was rewarded when he received the Coaches' award in 2002-03. Matt lettered four years at Mountain Ridge High School for Coach Charlie Cunningham. He was first team high school All-America in the 400-free relay. Matt was a part of a team which set the school record and was regional champion in the 200-medley relay, the 100-fly and the 400-free relay. He helped lead Mountain Ridge to an undefeated dual record of 8-0 and a regional championship.

Personal: He is the son of John and Nancy Lees. He was born June 9. 1984. He is majoring in justice administration.
