Junior: Tanja won each event she was in at the American Conference Championships and was named the Most Outstanding Women's Swimmer of the Meet, as well as being named to the All-American Conference team. She was victorious in the 200-individual medley, 400-individual medley, 200-butterfly, and 400-freestyle relay. Tanja qualified in the 200-indiviual medley, 400-individual medley, and the 200-butterfly for the NCAA Championships. At the NCAA Championships, she posted a 10th place finish in the 200 fly with a time of 1:54.84 and a third place finish in the consolation bracket of the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.16. She has the 11th-best time in the 200-IM, going 1:56.34; the top time is 1:52.87. Her time of 4:04.96 in the 400-IM put her sixth against the top time of 3:59.26. Tanja has the fifth-best time going 1:53.94 in the 200-fly. The best time is 1:52.19. Sophomore: Tanja Kylliainen was voted MVP for the women for the second year in a row. As a sophomore, Kylliainen qualified to compete in her second NCAA's and was named an All- American by placing 8th in the 200-butterfly where she had a prelim time and a team record of 1:54.33. She also made the B- final in the 200- and 400-IMs placing 14th in a prelim time of 1:57.08, and 10th in 4:07.30 respectively. At BIG EAST, Kylliainen won the 200-butterfly in 1:55.75 and was also crowned champion in the 400-IM in 4:07.29. Tanja came in second place in the 200-IM, being the fastest Cardinal in 1:57.53. All three individual events earned Kylliainen an All BIG EAST performer recognition. At the Mesa Grand Prix, Kylliainen placed 6th in the 200-meter IM in 2:17.30, and 7th in the 400-meter IM in 4:54.43 also being the fastest Cardinal in the pool. At Charlotte Grand Prix, Kylliainen bettered her times from Mesa in the 200-meter IM placing 7th in 2:16.81, and placed 13th in the 400-meter IM in 4:52.67. She placed 9th in the 200-meter butterfly in 2:14.62, 20th in the 100-meter butterfly in 1:02.19, and 13th in the 50-meter butterfly in 28.30. Tanja swept three events at the Purdue Invite, was chosen to represent the Cardinals at the SMU Classic, and also was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Freshman: Tanja qualified to compete in the NCAA Championships, which were held in Auburn, Alabama. She competed in the 200- and 400- IM and 200-fly. In the 200-IM she placed 28th in 1:58.80 and in the 400-IM she placed 31st. She qualified for her first NCAA consolation final in the 200-fly where she finished 10th in 1:55.23. She was named an Honorable Mention All-American. Tanja competed in the 200-IM and 400-IM as well as the 200-butterfly at the BIG EAST championships. In the 200-IM, she finished second in a time of 1:59.72 and qualified for the national B-cut. She was the BIG EAST Champion in the 400-IM with a time of 4:10.40 and qualified for the national B-cut. In the 200-butterfly, she finished second in a school record time of 1:55.22 and qualified for the national B-cut. She was named an All-BIG EAST performer in all three of her individual events as well as being a member of the 400-medley relay. In the fall, Tanja competed for Finland at the European Short Course Championships where she finished tenth in the 400-IM and set a new Finnish national record. Tanja was awarded the Female Freshman of the Year at the All Sports Banquet alongside of starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and basketball star Chane Behanan as the male recipients.

Prep: Tanja Kylliainen, the Finnish national record-holder in the 400-meter IM (4:49.72), comes to Louisville from the Loyola Blakefield Aquatic Program and is coached by Keith Schertle. Tanja, a current USA 2012 Olympic Trial qualifier in the 200-meter butterfly (2:15.11) and 400-IM, holds dual citizenship with the United States and Finland. She has already been announced as a member of the Finnish 2011 World Championship Team, which will compete in Shanghai, China. Kylliainen is a sectional champion in the 400-IM and 200-fly.
