Sophomore: Charlie was a mainstay in the Cardinals distance group throughout the season. Charlie competed in his first BIG EAST Championships this season as a non-scorer. He competed in the 500-free finishing a season best time of 4:32.30. He also swam the 400-IM and 1650-free. Charlie also competed at the Ohio State Last Chance qualifier where he swam the 1650-free in a season best 15:36.61. In dual meet action, he won the 1000-free at the double dual with Cincinnati and Eastern Michigan. Against UK, he recorded a victory in the 1000-free and a third place finish in the 500-free.
Freshman: Bolgan had strong
performances against West
Virginia and at the Purdue
Invitational. Against WVU,
he recorded a first-place finish
in the 1000-free with a
time of 9:25.04. At the Purdue
Invitational, he also had a first-place finish
and made the national B-cut in the 1650-
free with his 15:28.34 mark.
Prep: Charles
came to UofL from Hilton Head Island, South
Carolina where he swam for Jack Maddan at
Hilton Head Island High School. Charles finished
3rd in the in the 1500-free with a time of
16:02.63 at the Southern Zone Championship
in 2008 and 4th in the 1500-free with a time
of 16:14.93 in the Southern Sectional Championship.
He was a South Carolina All-State
swimmer his junior and senior year and an
All-American in the 500-free.
Personal: He is
the son of Franklin and Carol Bolgan. He was
born February 8, 1992. Major is psychology.
