LOUISVILLE, Ky. - During the last two weeks, University of Louisville student-athletes raised $752.97 for Kosair Children's Hospital through a "Jar Wars" competition sponsored by the UofL Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
For the "Jar Wars" competition, each of Louisville's teams were paired up and provided with a jar in the academic center to collect donations. Teams earned positive points for silver coins and dollars and were assigned negative points for pennies. The winning tandem was the Cardinals' men's track and field team and the Ladybirds dance team, which combined to raise the most money per student-athlete.
This year's amount surpassed last year's total of $415 and will be donated to Kosair Children's Hospital, which is the SAAC's "Charity of Choice" for 2012-13. Prior to each fall, the SAAC adopts a charity to partner with throughout the academic year.
The University of Louisville Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is a committee comprised of two to three student-athletes from each team at UofL and is assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC offers input on NCAA, BIG EAST and UofL rules, regulations and policies. The SAAC also plans a variety of social events and community outreach activities for the student-athlete body.
