Oct. 11, 2013

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville softball team was named one of the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top All-Academic Teams while five players were named NFCA Scholar Athletes.

As a team, the Cards posted a collective 3.154 GPA during the 2012-13 season. Chelsea Leonard, Chrisanna Roberts, Jordan Trimble, Taner Fowler and Brittany Sims also earned Scholar Athlete honors.

The award is bestowed upon any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2012-13 academic year. The honor marks the second component of the Association's academic award program.

Louisville finished the 2013 season with a 47-13 overall record after earning its tenth consecutive NCAA appearance and being selected the overall No. 15 seed for the second straight year. The Cardinals were No. 19 in the final ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate poll and No. 23 in the final USA Today/NFCA coaches' poll.

The Cardinals return eight letterwinners from that team, including 2013 All-America selection Katie Keller, All-BIG EAST team members: Whitney Arion, Caralisa Connell, Hannah Kiyohara, Rachel LeCoq and Maggie Ruckenbrod; and 2012 All-America selection Taner Fowler. Louisville also welcomes nine newcomers to the 2013-14 squad.
