LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's track and field team has been recognized for its academic success, earning U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic status, the New Orleans-based organization announced Thursday.

The Cardinal women now have achieved the honor for the seventh-straight season (2005-11). Along with Louisville, 11 other BIG EAST institutions were recognized as all-academic squads, the most of any conference in the nation.

In order to earn all-academic status, teams were required to have at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA at the 2011 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

Late last week, 10 Cardinals were honored individually by the USTFCCCA as all-academic team members. The athletes must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
